MANILA, Philippines — Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Monday evening following the issuance of an arrest warrant in connection with multiple cyberlibel charges.
According to a report from the Police Regional Office Calabarzon (PRO-4A), Barzaga presented himself at the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station on the same day the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 147 ordered his arrest.
The warrant stems from eight counts of alleged violations of Section 4(c) of Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
The complaints were filed by businessman Enrique Razon, Antipolo Rep. Ronaldo Puno, and Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano. The case is tied to Barzaga’s claims that members of the National Unity Party allegedly received bribes to support former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The court set bail at ₱48,000 per count, bringing the total bail to ₱384,000.
Barzaga is currently under police custody as the case develops.
