Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko’ Moreno Domagoso announced that the distribution of financial aid to local bakeries will start tomorrow, April 14, as part of the city’s effort to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.
Each participating bakery will receive P25,000, with the condition that they will not increase the prices of their bread products for 30 days.
The program aims to help bakeries maintain their operations and provide affordable bread to consumers, particularly the poor.
Mayor Isko emphasized that the aid is a response to the challenges faced by the baking industry due to the fuel crisis.
“We want to help our bakeries and our people, especially those who rely on bread as their staple food,” he said.
The price freeze will apply to popular bread products like pandesal, ensuring that Manileños can still afford their daily bread.
The local government will ensure that the prices of bread products remain stable during the 30-day period.
The aid program is expected to benefit hundreds of bakeries in Manila, providing them with much-needed support to continue their operations.
Mayor Isko urged bakery owners to take advantage of the program and provide quality bread products to their customers.
