MANILA — The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has postponed its April 14 hearing on alleged anomalous flood control projects, pending the formal submission of a sworn affidavit by former governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, Senate President Pro Tempore and committee chairman Ping Lacson said.
The panel is also awaiting additional signatures for its partial committee report.
Lacson said a hearing may be called if Singson submits at least a draft of his affidavit, and if five more committee members sign the report so it can be elevated to the Senate floor.
“The Committee has deemed it necessary to reschedule the public hearing contingent on the mitigation of the current National Energy Emergency and the formal submission of your sworn affidavit, including all pertinent supporting documents,” Lacson said in a letter to Singson.
“Additionally, the Committee has deferred the resumption of hearings pending the review and signing of the Partial Committee Report currently before its members,” he added.
Lacson noted that Singson was given until April 7 to submit his draft affidavit but has yet to respond.
He said the initial invitation was sent via email on March 25. When no reply was received, a copy was delivered to Singson’s residence on April 6. The deferment letter was sent on April 7.
So far, only four members have signed the partial committee report—five short of the nine signatures required to form a majority and allow it to be reported out on the Senate floor.
