MANILA — The Manila Local Government Unit (LGU) has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to jeepney drivers and operators who participated in the recent free ride program.
Mayor Isko Moreno reported that a staggering 931,831 passengers benefited from the initiative, which ran from March 30 to 31 and April 6-8, 2026.
A total of 1,128 jeepneys took part in the program, providing free rides to passengers, regardless of residency
This remarkable display of community spirit and cooperation has warmed the hearts of many, offering much-needed relief to commuters and support to drivers and operators struggling with rising fuel costs.
The free ride program was designed to cushion the impact of soaring petroleum prices on both passengers and public transport operators.
While the program may not be extended for now, Mayor Moreno assured that the Manila LGU is exploring alternative measures to continue supporting residents affected by the crisis.
The success of the free ride program has sparked hopes for more initiatives to ease the burden on Manila’s residents.
As the city navigates these challenging times, the LGU remains committed to finding innovative solutions to support its citizens. In the meantime, passengers are encouraged to take advantage of other city-led programs and services aimed at making life more affordable.
