MALATE, Manila — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has formally put online gaming giant Roblox on notice, following numerous complaints about child safety violations on the platform. Despite the warnings, Roblox continues to operate in the Philippines.
Reports indicate that some users are exploiting the platform for sexual predation, grooming, and other forms of abuse targeting Filipino minors. In response, DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda said the government is acting under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize youth protection in digital spaces.
“Children must always be able to enjoy online environments safely,” Aguda stressed, adding that no platform is exempt from compliance with child protection laws. He confirmed that Roblox has been given clear instructions to meet stricter safety standards to avoid regulatory action.
The DICT chief also highlighted that the US-based platform must enhance its safeguards and cooperate fully with Philippine law enforcement to monitor and prevent illegal activities. Failure to implement these measures could result in the government restricting or even suspending Roblox across the country.
