The alleged shooter in the killing of retired police officer George Capistrano was arrested in San Pedro, Laguna, early Tuesday, ending a days-long manhunt that spanned multiple provinces.
Albert Magdaraog, 27, was caught at a lodging house after being tracked by police and public tips.
Magdaraog admitted to shooting Capistrano during a March 14 robbery in Tondo, Manila. A .40 caliber firearm was recovered from him, believed to be the weapon used in the killing.
Authorities also arrested Ma. Cristina Anduyan, 23, for allegedly harboring Magdaraog.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso credited public cooperation for the arrest, saying citizens’ tips were crucial in tracking down the suspect.
“Justice is served to the family of Capistrano,” Domagoso said.
The killing triggered intensified police operations and a ₱500,000 reward, partly funded by Manila police officers.
Domagoso thanked citizens for their help, saying, “To the family of George Capistrano, I hope your city government has given justice today.”
