MANILA – Savouge middle blocker John Paul Bugaoan was named Spikers’ Turf Press Corps Player of the Week presented by Pilipinas Live after delivering standout performances that helped the team secure a berth in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference semifinals.
Bugaoan first contributed 10 points, including three blocks, in Savouge’s commanding straight-sets victory over 3B Event Masters, 25-8, 25-13, 25-13, on March 18.
He then stepped up again two days later, tallying 17 points from 12 spikes, four blocks, and one ace as Savouge rallied past Alpha Insurance in five sets, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, 15-9.
Despite being new to the squad this conference, the 6-foot-3 blocker has quickly become a reliable presence for the team.
Bugaoan credited the coaching staff and veteran teammates for helping him adjust and contribute effectively.
“Our coaches and senior players constantly guide us on how to move and work together. With the semifinals coming up, we know we must stay united and perform better as a team,” he said.
The four-time Best Middle Blocker edged teammate Joeven Dela Vega, AEP-Cabstars standouts Jay Rack Dela Noche and Jared Schnake, and Criss Cross opposite Jaron Requinton for the weekly citation selected by reporters covering the country’s premier men’s volleyball league organized by Sports Vision.
Savouge head coach Sydney Calderon highlighted Bugaoan’s discipline and leadership as valuable assets to the team.
“He listens carefully to instructions and also helps lead the team on the court. We’re very thankful he joined us, and he’s fitting in perfectly with the group,” Calderon said.
Savouge now looks to cap the preliminary round with wins against VNS Always Bright Laticrete and AEP-Cabstars to build momentum heading into the semifinal round.
