MANILA — Valenzuela City Mayor Wesley Gatchalian has announced a fuel subsidy of P500 for thousands of registered tricycle drivers in the city to help cushion the impact of rising fuel prices. The subsidy, coming from local government funds, will be given to drivers through gas stations.
Gatchalian met with tricycle operators and agreed to increase fares by P2 per kilometer. “We talked to the operators and agreed on a P2 increase per kilometer to help them cope with the rising costs,” he said.
The city has also acquired 35 electric vehicles, 40 patrol motorcycles, and 25 police vehicles to reduce fuel dependence and enhance law enforcement logistics.
“Modernizing our patrol fleet with electric vehicles allows us to strengthen peace and order while managing energy consumption and costs,” Gatchalian said.
The fuel subsidy and fare increase aim to support tricycle drivers and operators amid the challenging economic situation.
