MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region has turned over Ilocos Norte’s first centralized Medical Oxygen Automatic Gas Manifold and Vacuum System with Central Piping to the Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos District Hospital, marking a significant upgrade in patient care and hospital safety. The modern oxygen delivery system ensures a continuous and efficient oxygen supply to patients, reducing reliance on manual oxygen tanks.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized that the system is a lifeline for patients, providing uninterrupted oxygen for those suffering from severe pneumonia, respiratory distress, trauma, and other critical conditions. “With this system in place, we are strengthening our hospitals not only for today’s needs but also for future health emergencies,” Sydiongco stated.
The automated manifold system delivers oxygen directly to hospital wards, emergency rooms, and critical care areas through a centralized piping network. The integrated vacuum system supports surgical and emergency procedures, enhancing safety and efficiency in hospital operations. This upgrade reduces logistical challenges and risks associated with manual oxygen tank handling, allowing healthcare workers to focus on patient care.
The project, funded through the Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP) 2025 with ₱22,312,970, sets a new benchmark for hospital infrastructure in Ilocos Norte. The Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos District Hospital is the first health facility in the province to implement this advanced oxygen delivery system, serving as a model for other hospitals in the Ilocos Region.
The initiative underscores the DOH’s efforts to modernize provincial hospitals and bring high-quality healthcare services closer to communities. The project resulted from collaboration between the DOH – Ilocos Region, Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Angelo Marcos Barba, and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, reinforcing their commitment to strengthening the region’s health system.
