
MANILA – Cabs Cabonilas of FEU-Diliman emerged as the frontrunner for the UAAP Season 88 boys basketball MVP after finishing atop the Statistical Points chart.
The 19-year-old, 6-foot-4 forward from Digos City registered 83.286 SPs in 14 games, averaging 15.79 points, 8.86 rebounds, 3.79 assists, 1.79 steals, and 1.5 blocks per outing, helping FEU-D secure an 11-3 record. FEU-D will face Ateneo de Manila University in a tiebreaker for the No. 2 seed on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Ateneo’s Jude Eriobu will be recognized as the Best Foreign Student-Athlete, with 99.857 SPs, including averages of 21.64 points, 17.07 rebounds, 3.29 blocks, and 1 steal per game.
Other Elite Team honorees in the boys division are Maco Dabao (De La Salle-Zobel), Kirk Canete (UST), and Jay M. Leal (Ateneo). National University’s Mot Matias and Moussa Diakite were excluded due to suspension and foreign-player restrictions, respectively.
In the girls division, Rhiane Perez of UST claimed the top SP with 103.5, narrowly surpassing NUNS’ Zayden Rosano (101.167). The 17-year-old Perez averaged 14.17 points, 10.83 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.17 blocks, leading UST into the best-of-three Finals against NUNS, who also finished the elimination round at 5-1.
Completing the girls’ Elite Team are Aubrey Lapasaran (NUNS, 82.667 SPs), Koukoou Talla (UST, 76 SPs), and Lea Piñuela (UST, 74.333 SPs).
The official awards ceremony will take place on March 22 at 12 p.m. at the Blue Eagle Gym.
