MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. left Manila on Sunday for New York to participate in United Nations engagements, where he is expected to raise the escalating Middle East crisis and rally international backing for the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
The presidential aircraft departed at 10:22 a.m., carrying Marcos and his official delegation, which includes First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr., and Communications Secretary Dave Gomez.
During his UN visit from March 9 to 10, Marcos will meet with Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss peace initiatives in the Middle East and the protection of overseas Filipinos. The President is also set to speak before a special session of the UN General Assembly to promote the Philippines’ candidacy for the 2027–2028 non-permanent Security Council seat.
Marcos will additionally attend the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, reaffirming the country’s support for gender equality and women’s empowerment. This marks his sixth official visit to the United States since taking office in 2022.
