MANILA — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is set to roll out the “Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan”, a new program enabling government workers to borrow up to ₱500,000 to install solar panel systems in their homes. The initiative aims to help employees lower electricity costs while supporting national energy conservation efforts amid rising petroleum prices linked to Middle East tensions.
GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said the loan carries a 5% annual interest rate and can be repaid over five years through 60 equal monthly installments, with no service fee. Borrowers will also benefit from three-year insurance coverage for fire, earthquake, lightning, and typhoon damages at no additional cost.
The program follows approval from the GSIS Board of Trustees, which allocated ₱12.5 billion for the loan facility and ₱60 million for the insurance of solar panel installations. Veloso emphasized that the initiative not only helps government employees reduce their utility bills but also aligns with the country’s push toward sustainable energy solutions.
