MANILA, Philippines — The government has not issued a directive for the mass evacuation of Filipinos in the Middle East despite the escalating crisis in the region, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said on Monday that authorities remain fully prepared should conditions require the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Speaking during a briefing in Malacañang, Cacdac explained that both government agencies and private partners have been mobilized to ensure that transportation options are available if needed.
“We are prepared for such a scenario, and both the public and private sectors can provide transport by land, sea, or air,” he said.
Cacdac also revealed that the DMW has coordinated with the Department of National Defense for the possible deployment of military transport resources at the appropriate time.
Aside from this, discussions have been held with private transportation companies to expand the government’s evacuation capabilities.
“They are ready and currently on standby,” the DMW chief said.
Meanwhile, Filipinos living and working in the Middle East were urged to comply with safety protocols imposed by their host countries and follow advisories issued by Philippine embassies and consulates.
“Timing is critical right now. We respect the host countries’ security measures and encourage our nationals to remain indoors, stay safe, and avoid risky areas,” Cacdac added.
This remains a developing story. /iam
