MANILA — A proposed ₱120-billion elevated road network linking Balintawak, Quezon City, to Bocaue, Bulacan, is being pursued by the business groups of Manny V. Pangilinan and the Sy family to expand road capacity and ease traffic congestion, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced Thursday.
Marcos said he had asked the two conglomerates to work together, citing the need for additional routes to improve traffic flow, shorten travel time and reduce transportation costs.
The project would connect northern Metro Manila to Bulacan, providing commuters and workers with another potential route along a heavily traveled corridor.
The announcement comes as Pangilinan called for continued private-sector investment despite economic headwinds, including the peso’s record weakness, inflation and the threat of a strong El Niño.
Meanwhile, the Pangilinan group’s North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) opened a new two-kilometer section connecting Mindanao Avenue in Valenzuela City to Quirino Highway in Quezon City.
Worth ₱2.20 billion, the project was completed ahead of the expected influx of motorists leaving Metro Manila for the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day holidays.
The proposed elevated road network remains a major planned infrastructure investment, while the newly opened NLEX segment adds another link to the capital region’s road system.
