MANILA — Palace Press Officer Claire Castro has rejected rumors that she may be appointed to the Supreme Court, stressing that she did not seek the position.
Castro addressed the speculation during a Palace press briefing on Tuesday, categorically denying that she had applied to become an associate justice.
“Associate Justice ng Supreme Court si Auntie Claire? Hindi ako nag-apply so wala pong katotohanan ’yan,” she said.
Castro likewise refrained from making predictions about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s choice for the next chief justice, saying it would be premature to anticipate the President’s decision.
“At kung sinuman ang mapipili ng Pangulo bilang susunod na chief justice ng Supreme Court, ayaw po nating pangunahan kung sinuman ang mapipili ng Pangulo,” she said.
The discussions over the leadership of the Supreme Court come as Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo approaches mandatory retirement on November 6, 2026, upon reaching the age of 70.
His retirement will require the selection of a successor to lead the High Court.
