MANILA — The Senate Impeachment Court will temporarily suspend proceedings in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte following its October 13, 2026, hearing, Senate President Win Gatchalian said.
In an interview on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos, Gatchalian said Tuesday’s session would be the final hearing before the court takes a break, with the schedule for the defense’s presentation among the matters to be discussed.
“Today is the last day. Pag-uusapan ‘yung schedule ng defense,” Gatchalian said.
He said Duterte’s defense team is set to present its case on November 9, 2026.
The suspension will also allow senators to focus on deliberations on the proposed 2027 national budget.
Separately, the Senate Impeachment Court approved the prosecution’s request to withdraw three of the four impeachment articles filed against Duterte.
The move leaves Article II as the remaining article for consideration. It involves allegations of unexplained wealth against the Vice President.
The defense presentation is expected to resume the trial proceedings when the court reconvenes, subject to the schedule set by the Senate Impeachment Court.
