MANILA — A residential structure with an attached storefront collapsed along Sevilla Street in Binondo, Manila, leaving five people affected in the incident, including two who sustained injuries, authorities reported.
The collapse occurred at around 8:30 to 8:40 p.m. on October 1, 2026, at a residence owned by Fernando Ang in Barangay 272.
The incident involved a storefront or “palamigan” attached to the residence, with the victims reportedly trapped inside the collapsed structure.
Among those injured were Ian Kyle Torres, 13, and Maribelle Nepomuceno, 29, who were struck by the collapsing roof of the store.
Torres was reportedly buying items at the storefront when the collapse occurred. He sustained a contusion to the parietal/frontal area and a minor abrasion on his right arm.
Nepomuceno, identified as the tenant/storefront owner, sustained a contusion to the parietal region after also being struck by the roof.
Both injured victims were transported to Jose Abad Santos General Hospital (JJASGEN) via Toktok for medical evaluation and treatment.
Three other individuals were reported unharmed.
Cindy Openano, 26, identified as the storekeeper, was pushed inside the house by the store owner when the structure collapsed.
Dolores Perez, 51, the mother-in-law of the store owner/tenant, sought shelter beneath the beverage counter or “palamigan.”
Meanwhile, Marvin Marzol, 5, the store owner/tenant’s son, was inside a baby crib when the collapse occurred.
The victims were subsequently extricated from the collapsed structure by the husband of the store owner with assistance from bystanders.
Responding personnel included members of COVID 5 and Rescue 1, along with emergency medical personnel and supervisory staff.
The response team included R. Mabini II, K. Tolores, H. Pacura, Jay Ar Fajardo, Henry Ferrer, Shan Aron Turing, Carl Francisco, A. Guilas, R. Dela Rosa, and supervisor Jonathan Ney.
