MANILA — Carlos Yulo is making the Asian Games his golden playground.
The Filipino gymnastics star added the men’s vault title to his floor exercise crown on Friday, giving the Philippines its second gold medal at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
Yulo topped the vault final at Nagoya General Gymnasium with an average of 14.599, producing a 14.733 on his opening vault before registering 14.466 on his second.
His first effort carried a 5.6 difficulty rating and 9.133 execution score, while his second featured 5.2 difficulty and 9.266 execution.
Iran’s Mahdi Olfati settled for silver with 14.533, despite opening with an impressive 15.100, while Hong Kong’s Ka Ki Ng secured bronze at 14.116.
South Korea’s Jaeho Kim was fourth at 14.016.
Miguel Besana, Yulo’s fellow Filipino finalist, placed fifth with 13.783.
Yulo’s second gold came just a day after he ruled the floor exercise. The country’s first double Olympic champion will have another opportunity to add to his medal haul when he competes in the men’s parallel bars later Friday.
