MANILA — Agatha Wong’s Asian Games journey came to an end Sunday, with the veteran Filipina wushu artist finishing 10th overall in the women’s taijiquan and taijijian competition at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall.
Aichi-Nagoya marked Wong’s third and final Asian Games appearance, ending a memorable Asiad run that included a bronze-medal finish in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang edition.
The six-time Southeast Asian Games champion opened her final campaign strongly, scoring 9.703 points to rank seventh in taijiquan. She followed that with 9.156 points in taijijian, good for 11th place, for a combined tally of 18.859.
Wong admitted she wanted a better result but was satisfied knowing she gave her best in her farewell appearance.
“I think I could have done better,” Wong said. “I’m really happy that I did well in my first event. In the second event, I know I did my best so that’s enough.”
Her final Asian Games now behind her, Wong is preparing to return to another demanding arena—medical school.
The 28-year-old is set to resume her studies at UERM, with examinations awaiting her on Monday, even as she continues training for competitions scheduled next year.
“I have to study now so I’m going to go back. I have exams on Monday in med school,” Wong said.
“The training is still ongoing. I have competitions for next year so that’s going to be fun. For now, I’m done for this year.”
China’s Tong Xin successfully defended her title with 19.553 points. Saito Shiho of Japan settled for silver at 19.473, while Brunei’s Basma Lachkar took bronze with 19.443.
