MANILA — The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to influence weather conditions over Luzon and parts of the Visayas on Friday, bringing cloudy skies, rain showers and thunderstorms in several areas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA’s 4 a.m. forecast said Zambales and Bataan may experience occasional rains caused by the monsoon, with moderate to heavy downpours potentially triggering flash floods and landslides.
Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Antique are expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Residents in these areas were advised to remain alert, particularly in communities prone to flooding and landslides, as some thunderstorms may produce periods of moderate to at times heavy rainfall.
The rest of Luzon, along with Aklan and Capiz, may see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
In the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected, mainly due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned of moderate to strong southwest winds over northern and western Luzon, where coastal waters may become moderate to rough, with waves reaching 2.1 to 2.8 meters.
Coastal waters in the rest of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao are expected to remain slight to moderate.
The weather bureau urged the public to monitor official weather advisories and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall could cause sudden flooding or landslides in vulnerable areas.
The Habagat has also prompted local governments in some areas to suspend classes due to inclement weather.
