MANILA — The Marcos administration has pushed back against claims regarding who initiated the People’s Ville housing project in Davao City, with Malacañang asserting that the development was carried out through the efforts of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the DHSUD.
Speaking at a briefing Tuesday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro accused unnamed individuals of trying to claim ownership of the project despite, she said, not having taken part in the work undertaken by the national government.
Castro’s comments followed Vice President Sara Duterte’s statement that the housing project was started during her tenure as Davao City mayor.
Without directly naming Duterte, Castro questioned claims that the project originated elsewhere and pointed to official documents as evidence of the timeline of its development.
According to the Palace official, the project’s development permit was issued in 2023, followed by the issuance of its Certificate of Registration in 2024. She said these records demonstrate that the project was advanced during the Marcos administration.
Castro also cited DHSUD information indicating that 2,600 housing units have already been completed at the People’s Ville development. Four additional buildings, she added, are currently being constructed.
The Palace official called on the public to carefully assess the documents and facts surrounding the project instead of relying on political claims.
She maintained that the housing development was intended to provide decent homes and build communities for residents, particularly those in Davao City, rather than serve as a source of political credit.
