MANILA, Philippines — Rainy weather will remain a major concern in several parts of the Philippines on Saturday (08 August 2026) as the enhanced Southwest Monsoon continues to dump heavy rains, raising the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable communities.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the prevailing Habagat is bringing significant rainfall over portions of Luzon and the Visayas, prompting authorities to heighten preparedness in areas under rainfall warnings.
PAGASA’s 8 a.m. bulletin placed Bataan, portions of Zambales, Batangas and Cavite under an orange rainfall warning, with flooding threatening affected communities.
The situation was more serious in Occidental Mindoro, where a red warning was raised. PAGASA said serious flooding could occur in low-lying areas, while landslides remained a threat in mountainous locations. Several areas in Palawan, Antique, Aklan and Capiz were also under orange warnings.
Further south, Romblon and Oriental Mindoro were likewise placed under an orange warning because of the continuing monsoon rains.
Despite the unsettled conditions, the weather disturbance is not being caused by a tropical cyclone inside the country’s monitoring area. PAGASA said Typhoon Dolphin remains outside the PAR, although the system is being monitored as it moves southwestward northeast of Luzon.
Authorities advised residents, particularly those living near rivers, steep slopes and other hazard-prone areas, to stay updated on weather bulletins and be prepared to evacuate if local officials issue warnings.
With the Habagat continuing to influence the country’s weather, the public is urged not to underestimate sudden downpours, which can quickly trigger flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
