MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat) are expected to bring widespread rains over large portions of Luzon on Wednesday, prompting weather authorities to warn residents against possible flooding and landslides.
According to PAGASA, Maymay was located west of La Union early Wednesday and continues to move slowly while maintaining maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 80 kph. The storm, together with Habagat, is expected to dump moderate to heavy rainfall over Northern and Western Luzon.
Areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds capable of causing minor damage to houses, trees, and power lines.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces, including Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Rizal, can expect cloudy skies with occasional rains and thunderstorms throughout the day due to the southwest monsoon.
PAGASA advised the public, especially those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone communities, to remain vigilant and monitor official weather bulletins as rainfall may intensify.
