MANILA, Philippines — Torrential rains brought by a low-pressure area and the southwest monsoon paralyzed traffic across Metro Manila on Wednesday, as flash floods submerged major roads and slowed the movement of thousands of motorists during rush hour.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported heavy traffic along several sections of EDSA, including Muñoz to Bansalangin, New York to Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard to Buendia, Ayala to Magallanes, Guadalupe to Ortigas, Santolan to Aurora Boulevard, Quezon Avenue and Balintawak.
Flooding also caused severe congestion at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, while slow-moving traffic was reported along Marcos Highway, Airport Road and Roxas Boulevard as heavy rains continued to affect road conditions.
Meanwhile, ongoing roadworks compounded the traffic situation, with motorists encountering long queues along Tramo to Taft Avenue and from Benin Street to 8th Street.
The MMDA advised motorists to expect delays and monitor traffic advisories as intermittent rains and localized flooding continue to affect major thoroughfares across the National Capital Region.
