MANILA — Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday expressed confidence that any renewed investigation into the country’s 2019 Southeast Asian Games preparations would reaffirm the integrity of the projects, saying he is ready to cooperate with authorities.
Dizon made the statement during an inspection of the EDSA Phase 2 rehabilitation project after the National Bureau of Investigation initiated a review of alleged irregularities tied to the country’s hosting of the regional sporting event.
“We will cooperate because we have a clear conscience,” the DPWH chief said.
Dizon previously headed the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), the government agency responsible for overseeing the construction of sports facilities at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, which served as a major venue during the 2019 SEA Games.
According to Dizon, the infrastructure delivered under the project met world-class standards and earned recognition from both local and international observers.
He said the facilities continue to serve their intended purpose, with athletes from the National Academy of Sports regularly using the complex for training and development.
The DPWH secretary also pointed out that the accusations against him and several former government officials had already been resolved years ago.
He recalled that a complaint filed over the projects was dismissed in December 2021 by the Office of the Ombudsman, a decision that was likewise acknowledged by the NBI.
While welcoming the latest inquiry, Dizon said he remains confident that the investigation will once again confirm that the sports facilities were properly constructed and that public funds were used appropriately.
