MANILA — The Bacolod City division of the Department of Education has begun an inquiry into an alleged assault inside a classroom involving two students and a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner.
The victim suffered head injuries and a wound on one arm after reportedly being attacked by two schoolmates. The student told authorities that the pair entered his classroom and assaulted him, and that one of them bit his arm during the altercation.
Initial police findings indicate that the incident may have started after the victim teased some female classmates.
Lt. Rowena Jean Magan of Bacolod City Police Station 10 said the student was punched and allegedly assaulted by two fellow students after an exchange of teasing escalated into violence.
Investigators are looking into whether additional factors may have triggered the attack.
DepEd Bacolod spokesperson Lila Vaflor Arro said the matter is already under the review of the Schools Division Superintendent.
She added that the concerned parties have discussed possible legal steps that the parents may take and expressed hope that the families and the school would cooperate in resolving the issue.
Neither the school nor the parents of the students involved have released comments regarding the case.
The classroom assault adds to ongoing discussions about bullying and violence in educational institutions. The issue gained renewed attention after the June 2026 shooting at a school in Tacloban City, where three students were killed and several others were wounded. Police investigating that case have also considered bullying-related personal conflict as a possible motive.
