MANILA — At least eight people were injured after a speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) figured in a four-vehicle collision along the northbound lane of EDSA near Oliveros Drive in Quezon City, authorities said.
Initial reports showed that the black SUV was traveling at a high speed when it slammed into a pick-up truck. The force of the impact reportedly caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle spinning across the highway before crashing into a taxi and two motorcycles.
The violent collision left the SUV extensively damaged, with its front section heavily crumpled from the successive impacts. Debris from the wreckage was scattered across the roadway, prompting authorities to temporarily close portions of the northbound lane to facilitate rescue and clearing operations.
Emergency responders immediately arrived at the scene and rushed the injured victims to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Among those hurt were the three occupants of the SUV, the taxi driver, and four riders of the two motorcycles. Authorities said all the injured received immediate medical attention, although their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along the northbound stretch of EDSA as motorists were diverted while responders cleared the scene. Traffic flow gradually returned to normal after the damaged vehicles were removed.
Police investigators are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision, including whether speeding, reckless driving, or mechanical failure contributed to the incident. Authorities are also reviewing available CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to establish accountability.
