SAN DIEGO COUNTY — Search teams from several agencies resumed operations Tuesday in the rugged highlands of eastern San Diego County as efforts continue to locate Angelica Brophy, a Filipino American nurse who disappeared more than a week ago.
Brophy, 44, was officially reported missing on the evening of July 6. Police said she was last seen earlier that day at Harrah’s Resort in Valley Center.
Investigators later tried to determine the location of her mobile phone, but the signal could not be traced because the device was believed to be powered off or out of battery.
The focus of the search moved to Palomar Mountain State Park after officers found Brophy’s vehicle parked there with no one inside.
Family members and colleagues have been appealing to the public for assistance and prayers through social media posts.
“One of the kindest nurses I know is missing,” a co-worker wrote, expressing hope that Brophy would be found safe.
Her sibling also shared a public plea, saying the family remains determined to continue searching for her.
During the weekend, personnel from California State Parks and a sheriff’s search-and-rescue unit conducted extensive ground operations throughout the mountainous park but did not locate Brophy.
A dive team was also deployed to examine a pond within the preserve as part of the ongoing investigation.
