MANILA — Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has formally appealed to the National Police Commission to retain Hansel Marantan in active service for another year, citing the importance of maintaining continuity in key police operations across the Calabarzon region.
In his communication to the commission, Remulla emphasized that extending Marantan’s tenure would allow ongoing law enforcement initiatives and high-priority security programs under his leadership to continue without disruption.
Marantan, who currently heads the Police Regional Office 4A, is scheduled to retire on July 10 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56 for members of the Philippine National Police.
Under Republic Act No. 6975, the National Police Commission has the authority to retain police officers holding the ranks of brigadier general, major general, or lieutenant general beyond the compulsory retirement age for a maximum of one year, provided the extension serves the best interest of the police organization. The law also specifies that such an extension cannot be renewed.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government has not disclosed when the request was submitted, while Napolcom has yet to announce whether it will grant the appeal.
If approved, the extension would allow Marantan to continue leading police operations in one of the country’s busiest and most strategically significant regions as the PNP pursues ongoing peace, order, and anti-crime campaigns.
