MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has reminded motorists nationwide to renew their driver’s licenses and motor vehicle registrations on or before July 31, 2026, warning that penalties will be imposed on expired documents that remain unrenewed beyond the deadline.
In an advisory, the agency said the extension covering driver’s licenses, conductor’s licenses, student driver’s permits, and vehicle registrations under Memorandum Circular No. MVL-2026-5157 will officially end on July 31.
“After the said date, expired licenses, permits, and vehicle registrations that have not yet been renewed will be subject to existing regulations and corresponding penalties for late renewal,” the LTO stated.
The agency urged vehicle owners and drivers to process their renewals ahead of the deadline to avoid penalties and possible inconvenience.
Motorists were likewise advised to coordinate with the nearest LTO office or check the agency’s official communication channels for accurate and updated information regarding renewal requirements and procedures.
Earlier, the LTO granted a three-month extension on the validity of licenses, permits, and vehicle registrations beginning in April 2026, allowing motorists to renew without incurring late-renewal penalties.
The extension was implemented following the declaration of a national energy emergency by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. amid escalating fuel prices linked to tensions and conflict in the Middle East.
With the grace period nearing its end, the LTO encouraged the public to complete their transactions before the July 31 cutoff to ensure compliance with transportation regulations.
