MANILA — Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash plumes twice early Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), prompting continued monitoring of the volcano’s activity.
PHIVOLCS reported that the first ash emission occurred at 3:32 a.m., followed by a second event at 5:35 a.m.
Images captured by thermal cameras at the Lower Masuluga Observation Station and by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory’s IP camera in Kanlaon City showed gray ash plumes rising from the volcano’s summit.
The ash emissions reached approximately 300 meters above the crater before drifting southwest under prevailing wind conditions.
Despite recent activity, PHIVOLCS maintained Alert Level 2 for Kanlaon Volcano, indicating moderate unrest and the possibility of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
Authorities continue to closely monitor the volcano and have advised residents and visitors to stay away from the Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to potential volcanic hazards.
PHIVOLCS also urged local government units and communities near the volcano to remain vigilant and follow official advisories as volcanic activity remains ongoing.
