MANILA, Philippines — The government has stepped up its fight against cybercriminals after the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) forged a partnership aimed at strengthening law enforcement efforts against online crimes and bolstering the country’s cybersecurity defenses.
CICC Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso announced on Monday that the two agencies have agreed to combine their expertise, resources, and technological capabilities to enhance the nation’s response to evolving cyber threats.
Under the partnership, the CICC and NBI will collaborate in crafting policies, conducting joint cybercrime investigations, sharing research and intelligence, and improving the country’s overall cybersecurity framework.
“We have to outsmart these threat actors by being more proactive and aggressive in our efforts to keep our digital space safe and healthy for all Filipinos,” Paraiso said.
He described the collaboration as a strategic move designed to strengthen the government’s technology-driven capabilities and ensure a faster, more coordinated response to cybercriminal activities.
“This collaboration is about combining our strengths, expertise, and resources to build a safer digital space for every Filipino. By working together, we can respond better to cyber threats, improve public awareness, and ensure that those who exploit technology for criminal activities are brought to justice,” he added.
Parado noted that while digital platforms have transformed industries and expanded opportunities for communication and commerce, they have also become tools for individuals and groups seeking to deceive, exploit, and steal from unsuspecting users.
The partnership is expected to enhance cybercrime detection, digital forensic investigations, intelligence sharing, and enforcement operations aimed at dismantling online criminal networks.
Among the cases currently being handled by the CICC are online scams, illegal online gambling operations, online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, and the distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.
Officials expressed confidence that closer coordination between the CICC and NBI will help strengthen public protection in cyberspace and ensure that individuals who use technology for criminal purposes are held accountable under the law.
