Senator cites intelligence reports indicating frustration over political uncertainty, economic pressures, and governance issues

MANILA — Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Tuesday disclosed reports of growing frustration among members of the country’s uniformed services, saying concerns over political instability and economic challenges have reportedly spread beyond the national level and into regional commands.
Drawing from what he described as independent intelligence information, Lacson said dissatisfaction within the ranks has reportedly reached battalion and regional levels as personnel closely monitor developments affecting the country.
“As per information, though still sketchy and raw, the level of frustration within the armed services has reached up to battalion and regional levels,” Lacson said in a message to members of the media.
The former Philippine National Police chief attributed the reported frustration to a combination of issues confronting the country, including the ongoing leadership conflict in the Senate, rising inflation, increasing fuel prices, and allegations surrounding flood control projects.
According to Lacson, members of the uniformed services are paying close attention to what he described as a national crisis influenced by a range of internal and external factors.
In a separate message, the senator clarified that the concerns were not limited to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), although he did not identify the other uniformed services allegedly affected by the growing discontent.
Despite the reported frustrations, Lacson urged members of the armed services to remain discerning and avoid being influenced by individuals who may seek to exploit the current political situation.
He cautioned that the situation could worsen if political actors with vested interests attempt to capitalize on public dissatisfaction and institutional concerns.
“The danger is if some unscrupulous and power-hungry destabilizers among some aligned political groups take advantage by fanning the flame of discontent, rightly or wrongly, which could trigger widespread mass movements and protests,” Lacson warned.
The senator’s remarks came amid heightened concerns over security at the Senate, following reports of potential threats that were earlier acknowledged by Acting Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian.
As political tensions continue to unfold in the upper chamber, Lacson stressed the importance of maintaining stability and professionalism within the country’s uniformed services while government institutions address the challenges confronting the nation.
