MANILA — Thousands of educators in Sulu have undergone intensive training under the Department of Education’s curriculum enhancement program aimed at improving classroom instruction and preparing teachers for major academic reforms.
According to DepEd, 3,648 teachers, school administrators, and education officials participated in a series of workshops conducted between May 28 and June 5. The program focused on the revised K-10 curriculum and the strengthened Senior High School framework.
The initiative supports the administration’s goal of raising education standards and improving student performance nationwide.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the training demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that teachers in geographically isolated areas have access to the same professional development opportunities available in other regions.
He noted that strengthening educators’ understanding of the updated curriculum is essential to bringing meaningful improvements to classroom learning.
Training activities were divided into three stages. The first two phases concentrated on the revised K-10 curriculum and involved 2,583 educators. Sessions covered curriculum content, teaching methodologies, instructional design, and learner assessment.
The opening phase was conducted at Mohammad Tulawie Elementary School from May 28 to 30 and was attended by 1,634 participants. Another 949 educators joined the second phase at Bakud Elementary School from May 31 to June 2.
The final phase, held at Jolo School of Fisheries from June 3 to 5, gathered 1,065 participants, including teachers handling upper-grade levels, Technology and Livelihood Education, and Senior High School subjects.
DepEd said the training also emphasized strategies for preparing students for college studies, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning through classroom experiences that reflect current industry needs and expectations.
