Liza Marcos Honored for Contributions to Legal Education
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on Friday led the inauguration of the new College of Law Building at West Visayas State University (WVSU), marking a significant milestone for the institution where the First Lady once served as a law professor.
The event carried personal significance for Araneta-Marcos, who joined the WVSU College of Law as a part-time faculty member in 2022. During her tenure, she taught Criminal Law 1 and handled courses in Public International Law, Administrative Law, and Civil Law Review.
University officials highlighted her contributions to legal education and her role in helping train future members of the legal profession.
In recognition of her accomplishments and service to the field of law, WVSU conferred upon the First Lady the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, in 2024.
The newly inaugurated College of Law Building is expected to enhance the university’s academic facilities and provide a more conducive learning environment for law students and faculty members.
Joining the President and the First Lady during the ceremony were Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Shirley Agrupis.
The inauguration forms part of the administration’s continuing efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and support institutions that provide quality higher education across the country.
The President’s visit to Iloilo also underscored the government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and improving facilities for students pursuing professional and legal studies.
