
MANILA — Senator Win Gatchalian has been elected as the new Senate President Pro Tempore, replacing Senator Loren Legarda, following a reorganization of leadership and committee chairmanships in the upper chamber on Wednesday.
Gatchalian declared a quorum after Senator Chiz Escudero appeared at the plenary session, allowing the Senate to proceed with its organizational changes.
Several key committee leadership positions were also filled, with senators taking over major panels:
• JV Ejercito – Committee on Finance
• Tito Sotto – Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation
• Ping Lacson – Committees on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs; and Accounts
• Erwin Tulfo – Committees on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations (Blue Ribbon); and Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development
• Raffy Tulfo – Committee on Public Services
• Bam Aquino – Committee on Basic Education
• Kiko Pangilinan – Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform
• Risa Hontiveros – Committee on Health and Demography
• Lito Lapid – Committee on Games and Amusement
• Chiz Escudero – Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement
• Migz Zubiri – Committees on Foreign Relations and Rules
The Senate reorganization comes amid ongoing plenary proceedings and leadership realignments within the chamber.
