MANILA — Another complaint tied to the flood control controversy is set to be filed before the Office of the Ombudsman, with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) signaling that a prominent figure may soon be implicated.
Speaking on Wednesday, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon revealed that the agency will file a new case in Bulacan involving multiple respondents. He teased the inclusion of a “big fish” but stopped short of naming anyone ahead of the filing.
The announcement came during Dizon’s inspection of the Matalahib Creek pumping station in Quezon City, where he discussed the government’s continuing flood mitigation initiatives.
Dizon said rehabilitation work at the creek follows a drainage master plan crafted by the local government and has already produced encouraging results.
Residents in nearby communities have reported that floodwaters are no longer reaching the same levels experienced in the past and are draining faster after heavy rains, he said.
Despite the improvements, Dizon acknowledged that flooding cannot be completely eliminated. Instead, the objective is to lessen its severity and minimize disruption to affected communities.
He also emphasized that the administration will continue implementing rehabilitation and flood control projects, citing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to sustain efforts aimed at improving flood resilience across the country.
The latest complaint is expected to be formally filed in Bulacan on Thursday as authorities continue scrutinizing flood control projects and related expenditures.
