MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Domeng, internationally known as Jangmi, has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Friday, though state weather forecasters said it is unlikely to directly impact the country’s weather conditions in the coming days.
PAGASA reported that the storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was last spotted 1,345 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, moving northwestward at a speed of 20 kph.
No tropical cyclone wind signals have been raised across the country, as the system remains far from the Philippine landmass.
Despite this, Domeng is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing heavy rainfall over western parts of the country beginning Sunday. PAGASA also warned that strong to near-gale conditions may affect several areas starting Saturday due to the strengthened windflow.
