MANILA – The House of Representatives has approved a proposal extending the validity of Professional Regulation Commission licenses from three years to five years, a move expected to benefit more than 1.2 million professionals.
House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said the measure would help ease the financial and administrative strain caused by frequent PRC license renewals.
He emphasized the important role played by Filipino professionals, including educators, healthcare workers, engineers and accountants, in maintaining public services and supporting the economy.
Under House Bill No. 8876, professionals would have fewer renewal transactions, allowing them to devote more time to work and professional development.
Data from the PRC showed that the country has over 1.25 million registered professionals, with most already holding valid identification cards.
Among the sectors likely to benefit most are teachers, nurses, criminologists, civil engineers, medical technologists and certified public accountants.
Dy added that the proposed extension would also help streamline government services by reducing congestion in PRC renewal facilities.
The bill has already passed third and final reading in the House, but a similar measure in the Senate has yet to be approved.
