MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it remains vigilant amid reports that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is preparing to issue more arrest warrants tied to the country’s controversial anti-drug campaign.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization continues to coordinate closely with law enforcement partners while ensuring that all actions comply with legal procedures and due process.
According to Nartatez, the PNP stands ready to enforce lawful orders issued by authorized government bodies.
“We remain fully committed to our mandate of upholding the rule of law, including the enforcement of any legal orders. As officers of the law, this is our sworn duty,” he said.
The statement came after reports surfaced that the ICC could target additional individuals in connection with its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity during the previous administration’s war on drugs.
The PNP is currently working alongside the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other agencies in anticipation of possible operations related to the expected legal actions.
The Department of Justice earlier instructed the PNP and NBI to serve the ICC arrest warrant against Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa after the Supreme Court denied his plea for a temporary restraining order.
The ICC accuses dela Rosa of crimes against humanity stemming from the anti-narcotics campaign that reportedly left thousands dead, including several minors.
Meanwhile, Malacañang reiterated its position that any forthcoming ICC warrants should be implemented without delay.
Nartatez emphasized that the police force would strictly follow lawful procedures and official directives in handling the matter.
“As a professional and disciplined institution, the PNP ensures that all actions remain consistent with standard operating procedures,” he said.
