MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Francis Tolentino has been tapped by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to serve as Acting Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment, replacing Bienvenido Laguesma.
The announcement was made Monday by Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, who said the President has full confidence in Tolentino’s leadership abilities and long record in public service.
Tolentino is set to formally assume the post after taking his oath before Marcos later in the day at Malacañan Palace.
Malacañang explained that the change in leadership at the labor department was necessary due to Laguesma’s current health condition.
When asked if Laguesma might be transferred to another position in government, Castro said no decision has been finalized, adding that the matter would still depend on his health and the President’s discretion.
