COTABATO CITY – Police in BARMM have launched an investigation and manhunt after a radio broadcaster was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in the Special Geographic Area on Thursday night.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Nestor Micator, known as “Teting,” worked as a news anchor and commentator for D’Empire Radio based in Pikit, Cotabato province, according to Capt. Vilma Dimaraw of the Malidegao police.
Authorities said the shooting happened around 7 p.m. in Barangay Fort Pikit, Malidegao, right in front of a village hall. The victim was about to leave with his wife when two armed men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire, hitting him in the head. He died instantly, while his wife escaped unharmed.
Police also confirmed that Micator was a member of the barangay council (Lupong Pambarangay) in the area, adding another possible angle in the investigation.
Investigators are still determining whether the attack was related to his work in radio broadcasting or his role in local governance, and whether he had received prior threats.
D’Empire Radio condemned the killing, urging authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police said they have identified several persons of interest but have yet to disclose identities as the investigation continues.
