MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s planned attendance at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix could open opportunities for investment discussions with business leaders, Malacañang said Friday.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed that Marcos would attend the event following an invitation from Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Castro said the gathering would provide an opportunity for personal engagement with business executives and other influential personalities, potentially paving the way for investment prospects in the Philippines.
“Sa ganoong mga klase ng mga imbitasyon, hindi lang sila manonood. Mas marami rito ang usapan,” Castro said, explaining that such invitations involve discussions beyond watching the race.
The Palace official also addressed criticism surrounding the president’s planned appearance, saying unfavorable reactions were inevitable.
She maintained that Marcos continued to perform his presidential duties even while traveling overseas.
Castro, however, did not provide details about the president’s schedule at the Grand Prix or name other foreign officials expected to attend.
Marcos is undertaking a working visit to Singapore from Oct. 7 to 11, with the Palace highlighting the potential diplomatic and business engagements surrounding the trip.
