MANILA — Senator Panfilo Lacson has called on Filipinos to maintain public vigilance as the Senate formally sits as an impeachment court.
The upper chamber recently began impeachment proceedings involving Vice President Sara Duterte, marking a significant step in the legislative process.
Lacson noted the shift in atmosphere inside the Senate, describing it as noticeably calmer compared to the previous week’s tense situation, which included a reported shooting incident within the Senate premises.
He said the difference between last week’s disorder and the more orderly proceedings now was striking, especially after parliamentary rules were properly observed during the convening.
The senator emphasized that citizens should remain watchful and engaged, underscoring the importance of accountability in public institutions.
He also warned against the misuse of authority, stressing that power is not without boundaries.
“Arrogance of power, like impunity, has its limits,” Lacson said.
