MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed it has obtained leads regarding the location of Senator Ronald dela Rosa, who is subject of an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant, according to NBI Director Melvin Matibag.
Matibag did not reveal specifics but said investigators are continuing to verify information.
He suggested that Senator Robin Padilla could provide useful information, noting that Padilla was reportedly with Dela Rosa shortly before he went out of public view.
Matibag appealed to Dela Rosa to surrender, emphasizing his background as former head of the Philippine National Police during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
He referenced past instances involving former senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Leila de Lima, who both faced and complied with legal processes despite holding office at the time.
The senator was last seen leaving the Senate premises with Padilla after a shooting incident inside the chamber on May 13. He had earlier been under Senate custody after reappearing following a long absence.
On the Senate incident, Matibag said issues of accountability should consider command responsibility, as investigations continue. He added that the NBI inquiry is nearing completion and will be turned over to the Department of Justice panel for final evaluation.
Matibag also said he is ready to cooperate fully with any investigation into the matter.
