MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday challenged the graduating cadets of the Philippine Military Academy “Talang Dangal” Class of 2026 to remain steadfast in defending the country’s sovereignty and democratic freedoms.
In a video message released during the graduation ceremonies, Duterte congratulated the 207 graduating cadets and praised them for enduring years of demanding military training marked by discipline, sacrifice, and dedication to public service.
The graduating class is composed of 142 male cadets and 65 female cadets who are set to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Addressing the graduates, Duterte reminded them that their responsibilities begin the moment they leave Fort General Gregorio H. del Pilar in Baguio City, where PMA cadets undergo four years of rigorous military and leadership education.
She encouraged the new officers to embody integrity, bravery, and patriotism as they face future challenges in protecting the country.
“Stand firm against all threats to our sovereignty and liberties,” Duterte said, emphasizing the importance of courage and unwavering commitment even during difficult times.
The Vice President also thanked the cadets for choosing what she described as a noble profession dedicated to safeguarding the nation and serving the Filipino people.
Leading this year’s graduating class is Cadet First Class Christine Kaye Demisana Librada of Lipa City, Batangas, who made history as the ninth female cadet since 1993 to top a PMA graduating class.
Librada, a former psychology student from De La Salle University, is also one of five women who placed in the Top 10 of the graduating class.
Of the 207 graduates, 76 will enter the Philippine Army, 69 will join the Philippine Navy, and 62 will serve in the Philippine Air Force.
