MANILA, Philippines — The City Government of Manila is targeting the completion of the new P2.4-billion Ramon Magsaysay High School building in Sampaloc by early 2027, with students expected to begin using the facility in School Year 2027–2028.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, alongside Vice Mayor Chi Atienza and City Engineer Armand Andres, recently inspected the ongoing construction of the 10-storey structure located along España Boulevard.
According to Andres, city officials are aiming to finish the project by February 2027 as construction activities continue to accelerate after previous delays.
During the site visit, Domagoso met with workers and engineering personnel to assess the progress of the development and ensure that construction remains aligned with the approved plans and timetable.
Officials also reviewed project blueprints on-site as part of monitoring efforts for the large-scale education infrastructure project.
Construction of the new school complex first began in June 2020 but experienced setbacks that temporarily slowed development. Earlier this year, the Manila city government formally resumed full construction operations, with Domagoso pledging to complete the project within a year.
Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to help address classroom shortages and improve the student-to-teacher ratio in Manila’s public school system.
The new campus will include modern educational and recreational amenities such as a sports and wellness center, a basketball court, and a proposed football field aimed at supporting both academic learning and student development.
Established in 1954 and named after former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, the school has long served generations of students in Manila.
City officials said the aging condition of the school’s previous facilities highlighted the need for a major modernization project to better accommodate the growing student population in Sampaloc and nearby communities.
