MANILA – Defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman wasted no time asserting itself in UAAP Season 88 high school 3×3 basketball, overpowering Adamson University, 22-9, in the Under-19 division on Monday at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City.
Marc Burgos and Sam Hall led the charge with six points each, while Cabs Cabonilas and JB Cagurangan added five apiece as the Baby Tamaraws began their title defense on a high note.
Cabonilas, who also contributed six rebounds and four assists, expressed his determination to help FEU-D complete a strong campaign.
“I’ll just do my best and help win the championship for my teammates,” he said, as FEU-D continues its bid for a rare “golden double” after winning the 5-on-5 crown earlier this year.
In other Under-19 games, De La Salle Zobel pulled off a narrow 20-19 win over UPIS, while National University Nazareth School outlasted Ateneo de Manila University in overtime, 21-18. University of Santo Tomas also secured a 21-16 victory against University of the East.
Meanwhile, Ateneo began its Under-16 title defense with a 21-14 win over UPIS behind Sky Jazul’s 11-point performance.
The reigning MVP emphasized teamwork as the key to their campaign.
“Our mindset is to play as one and defend the championship. But we have to take it one game at a time,” said the 15-year-old, son of former PBA player RJ Jazul.
In other U-16 results, FEU-D defeated UST, 21-16, while De La Salle Zobel edged UE, 16-15.
