This veteran block-timer news anchor, known for his gravelly voice and “champion of the farmer” persona, is reportedly now involved in a different kind of controversy: alleged extortion.
For years, he reportedly enjoyed the deep pockets of a major agricultural corporation as the primary sponsor of his radio program. But since the brand decided to pull its funding and “plow other fields,” the broadcaster has allegedly not taken the breakup well. Instead of seeking a new sponsor, he is said to have turned his microphone into leverage.
The Scheme
The anchor has allegedly been seen approaching the offices of high-ranking agriculture officials, requesting “exclusive” sit-downs and off-the-record briefings. The twist, according to insiders: he claims he is there on behalf of his former sponsor.
He is also alleged to be presenting “black ops” dossiers—containing damaging (and possibly unverified) information about current government projects—and telling officials that his former sponsor is the source of the leaks.
The Ultimatum
Insiders say the anchor’s goal may not be to break a story, but rather to apply pressure. He has reportedly sent word to the former sponsor’s executives with a clear message:
“If you want me to stop using your company’s name as the ‘source’ of these attacks during my interviews with the department, you need to sign a new advertising contract immediately.”
Essentially, he is allegedly putting the company’s reputation at risk. If they do not comply, he continues to link them to a supposed smear campaign against a government agency they maintain business relations with.
While he often speaks about “transparency in the fields” on air, critics say the situation raises questions about his own practices. It remains to be seen whether the sponsor will agree to renewed advertising—or challenge the claims altogether.
