BAGUMBAYAN, Quezon City — The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to apply space technology in improving the country’s irrigation systems and water resource management.
According to PhilSA ad interim Director General Gay Jane Perez, the agreement sets the stage for the use of satellite data and analytics to support the planning, development, and monitoring of irrigation systems, enabling more proactive and real-time water resource management.
The MoU was signed by Perez and NIA Administrator Eduardo “Eddie” Guillen, who said that under the partnership, both agencies will collaborate on research, development, and the utilization of satellite data, as well as training programs to strengthen NIA’s technical capacity.
